Hi everyone… My sister set this page up sometime after I heard the news last night.
I don’t normally post stuff like this, but my family lost their home to a house fire last night (the cause of the fire hasn’t been determined) and things are in pretty bad shape right now. Another really important but unfortunate part of the story is that my mom cannot work at the moment, and this is because all of her time goes towards caring for my stepdad (who recently suffered a heart attack and is in poor health). The rest of her time is spent taking care of my brother, whose anxiety is very intrusive… he suffers from panic attacks and even seizures if my mom is away for long periods of time. My mom has not been able to work for some time due to this, so they have absolutely no savings. Most of my family is poor and my mom doesn’t really have anyone that she can rely on regularly – especially now.
I moved out of state a few years ago and I send money back home to help my mom with general expenses now and then, and I really wish I had the ability to help her more, especially now, but there is only so much I can do on my own.
My family is in a really tight spot, so any kindness, such as a donation or a reblog, would mean the world to me and to my family. Thank you for reading ;;

hi i hadn’t seen much about this on tumblr sans a few text posts with 40 notes at best so a nicaraguan friend asked me to post this on her behalf to explain what’s happening in nicaragua right now. a lot of the hashtag is in spanish but you can search either #sosnicaragua or #sosinss for more information and firsthand accounts from nicaraguans being brutalised by police and government forces
some of the following links contain footage of actual murder so click at your discretion but police have been looting supermarkets and outright stealing from civilians who aren’t protesting, shooting protesters with rubber bullets, brutalising people trying to hide including people who aren’t protesters and outright murdering people (a link to the same event but from the camera of the man shot to death)
don’t misinterpret the need for people around the world to be aware of what’s going on, this is not a call for US intervention. don’t call your representative, keep the united states out of latin america, but don’t stop talking about what’s happening and spread information. genuine information from firsthand footage, certain media outlets in nicaragua are either being suppressed by the government or are themselves government mouthpieces (TN8 @canaltn8, Canal 2 @Canal2nicaragua, Radio Ya @nuevaya, Canal 13 @VivaNicaragua13, El 19 Digital @el19digital, however some journalists have quit due to government suppression of their work which is detailed in this list) but they haven’t stopped people from sharing videos and stories online.
if you want to do more than spread information the venmo account nicaragua-libre is used for getting supplies to protesters and wounded civilians and is verified by a student run instagram (locked but here are screenshots on twitter) posting pictures of the actual recipits from supermarkets and pictures of supplies
